2021 Livestock Growth Continues
Even in these strange COVID-19 times, the Livestock Division staff continues to post year-over-year, double-digit volume increases.
As issues of staffing, quarantines, masks and mandatory vaccinations plague the packing industry and trickle down to markets and producers, National Farmers Livestock has continued to grow.
This year, volume was up another 12.2 percent over fiscal 2020. COVID-19 isn’t all that our staff has fought. A building collapse in Manchester, Iowa caused by a tornado brought our staff and producers together to help the clean-up and repair the Iowa facility. Elsewhere, staff worked hard to keep marketing centers open and livestock moving.
To say that 2021 has been interesting would be a massive understatement. While the cow herd in the U.S. continues to shrink, National Farmers cull cow volume is slightly down, as we expected. However, our fed cattle volume continues to grow through cash sales and our Nexus risk management programs.
