Candidates for West Region Director
BIO - JESS ALGER, MONTANA
I am Jess Alger from the Stanford area in central Montana, where my family has ranched since 1918. My father joined NFO in 1968 when they first came to Montana. I graduated from Montana State University in Animal Science in 1971. I raise Red Angus and Red Angus-cross cattle. Today we have 107 cows, calves, and yearlings. My operation is 100% organic. My cattle roam 498 acres of native pasture during the summer. Out of 1120 acres in the home place, 600 acres are pasture and hay, and the rest are cropland growing lentils, peas, winter wheat, kernza, rye (but not again) and cover crops. We sell locker beef directly to customers. Cull cows and calves are marketed through the NFO livestock program out of Raynesford, MT. I have purchased hay from NFO, and I also sell grain through NFO.
I have served as Judith Basin County president for 12 years, and Montana state president for 20 years. I am currently in my fifth year as a national director. I have attended many county, state, and national NFO meetings. National Farmers was organized under the premise that we are an all-commodity organization serving grain, livestock, and dairy. If elected regional director for the West, I will promote that ideal by serving all farmers and ranchers in all commodities.
BIO - AARON JOHNSON, SOUTH DAKOTA
We organically raise corn, soybeans, oats, and alfalfa in a six-year rotation, along with a commercial stock cattle operation. I have proudly served as a board member for a local non-profit, church council, County Commissioner, Planning and Zoning Board, and Conservation District Board.
NFO has been an integral part of our operation for more than 64 years, and we continue that tradition today by utilizing NFOrganics for all of our grain marketing needs. I hope to serve the dedicated members of NFO, just as my father did in the early 1960s, and to see NFO continue to be a valued resource for all producers.
Candidates for Midwest Region Director
In the Midwest Region incumbent Don Hamm (Wisconsin) was running unopposed. At the Board meeting on December 2, 2025, the Vetting Committee and the Board of Directors named Hamm to fulfill the three-year term by acclamation. Therefore, no ballots will be mailed in the Midwest Region.
